Scrapping Outside the Box

The final challenge of the race was a scraplift of our favorite layout that our partner had created during the race. I loved all of Shawn's layouts, so choosing which one to lift was hard ... but I managed to do it. I chose to lift her layout from Challenge 9.
The second aspect of this challenge was that we had to scrap about our favorite part of the ADSR2. My favorite thing about this race was that it made me scrap outside of my norm. Here is what the journaling says...

The Amazing DigiScrapping Race 2 was full of exciting challenges and adventures; but my first one started before the race did. It was quite an adventure trying to find a partner. I found a great one in Shawn though. Shawn and I are on opposite sides of the planet but we work well together. Our styles are just a bit different too, which makes working as a team a lot of fun. I do have to admit though that picking my partner was not my favorite part of the race. My favorite aspect of the race was the fact that many of the challenges made me scrap outside my norm. It made me use a lot of pictures or even Alphas. I don't normally use alphas, that one was hard. I had to spend a lot of time looking for the alphas to use. I don't like one photo layouts, so using many photos for my pages wasn't a really big change for me. The real challenge was using the required number. 10 photos on one page is not exactly an easy thing to do, but I did it. It was a lot of fun too! I do digital scrapbooking challenges every month, but I don't normally create new styles. I just stick to what is comfortable for me. The Amazing Race didn't let me do that. It made me thing of new ways to do things. I am always up for a challenge and Scrapping Outside the Box is the best one of all. I'm really happy I did this race. Bring on ADSR3.

We Got Your Challenge #12....right here!!!

Yep, that's right, this is the stop for Challenge #12!!! So, here it is:

Your challenge is to scraplift your favorite layout done by your partner. If you're racing alone now, you can scraplift any other racer. But, your layout needs to be about the ADSR. You must scrap your page about your favorite aspect of the Amazing Digi Scrapping Race.

That's it. Two components. A scraplift and a topic.

And for completing the challenge, you'll get a coupon for $7 good towards anything in my personal store at NDISB. The coupon is good through the end of the year, so if you don't see $7 worth of stuff you don't already have, I've got plenty of new stuff coming out.

This page was a fun one for me to do! For some reason I didn't see the challenge posted at the ADSR2 blog, and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I was completely caught off guard when I came to our blog and saw that not only had Shawn posted the challenge here for me, she had already completed her layout too. Amazing! She's totally on top of things. For this layout I used a template by Simply Sarah. The background paper is from Amanda Thorderson's America the Beautiful kit. The movie photos were found all around the internet (it was a lot of fun to look for them). The font that I used is Velvet Script. Here is what the journaling states --- Grease has got to be my all-time favorite movie. I used to lay in
bed at night when I was younger and listen to my parents when
they would watch it. The songs were my favorite part at that age. As I grew up I just loved the entire movie. I even threw a party for the girls on my floor when I was an RA in college. We then discussed the things that were good and bad about the story. I know this movie inside and out, forward and backward. I could watch it every day. It reminds me of how much people are willing to do to fit in, to be liked. I tried that once, it didn't really work. I feld much better when I went back to being myself. I hope I can teach my boys that they should never change who they are just to fit in with others.

Challenge: We've been going to the movies as part of our Blockbuster Summer here at RAKScraps. Your challenge is to create a layout about your favorite movie and how it relates to you!

Challenge 10 -- Working Out

This challenge was an interesting one. Trying to find the alphas on my computer was a fun event ... I didn't have too many, but I found some great free downloads today ... thanks to the IkeaGoddess and her blog.

Here is the journaling and credits for this layout:
There aren't many moments where I actually get to spend time by myself. But, school is about to start again soon. I can't wait. This means that I will get to go back to the gym again. The Hall of Champions cardio center is my favorite place to be when I am not subbing at the elementary school.
When I go to the gym I get a chance to do something for myself. I can exercise as long as I want to and know that I am doing something good for myself. I may not always get to be there as long as I would like to be but being there even for 20 minutes gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I am doing something to better myself. The cardio center usually smells like nasty seaty people; but with the right music you can tune out the smell and get in a decent workout. I can't wait to get back to the gym and on the eliptical machines.

OOOHHHH ...... What Fun .... NOT!
This is definitely going to be a challenge for me. I HATE Alphas with a passion. It could be even more of a challenge since I'm not sure that I actually have any alphas on my computer (I tend to delete what I don't like)
Ok .. off to think about this layout and get working on it .... will post what I come up with at some point today ... gotta get it over with quickly.
Wish I would have seen this before creating the 2 page layout about the boys riding their bikes yesterday with no training wheels. Maybe I will have to get out there today and take more pictures of them.

This was by far the toughest one to figure out what to scrap! I guess I don't have huge embarrassing moments. In the example they said something like "if you walked around with tp on your shoe...", well, I would just laugh, pull it off, throw it away - no need to be embarrassed about a simple mistake. I guess I get most embarrassed when I don't live up to my own expectations. This LO is an example of that.

Lunchtime Nightmare

This challenge was a bit of a chore for me to actually do. I racked my brain all day today trying to come up with an embarrassing moment. I really had a hard time coming up with one. I guess I do my best to forget those types of moments ... LOL ... but I managed to come up with one. I chose to create my layout about an incident that happened one day during the lunch period this past school year.
For this layout I used a kit called PopTart ... available at Elemental Scraps. Its one of the kits that I purchased with the gift certificate we were given for completing a previous challenge in this race. The fonts that I used are Kids First Print Font, Lindsay Beehive and Velvet Script. It's A Date Stamp Set by Teriann Hanks @ DSO.

This is what the journaling says:

Lunchtime at the Elementary School is usually a fun thing to see. But not always. There was one day in May, during the year Andrew was in Kindergarten. I was at the school volunteering, like most days. It was time for lunch and ice cream was on the menu for dessert. The lunch ladies had forgotten to give Andrew's class their ice cream when they picked up their trays. The lady working the register gave me the box of ice cream and told me to make sure that all of the students with hot lunch got their ice cream. I handed the cups to all of Andrew's class and the class that shared the tables with them. Then I went to the other tables and started handing the ice cream cups to the third Kindergarten class. I had given it to almost the entire class when their teacher's aide threw a fit. She had purposely made sure that her class didn't get the ice cream cups when they went through the line. She was really mad at me for giving it to them and made me take it all back. I was so embarrassed. I had only been doing what I was told to do, but she made it like I had done something incredibly wrong. I felt so bad for the kids in her class. Especially when I was taking the ice cream back that I had given them I shouldn't have been embarrassed, I only did what I was told. I honestly don't know if I was more embarrassed or upset at the whole situation Probably a bit of both. After taking the ice cream cups back from her students I took the box back to the counter and went to eat by Andrew. I hope tha tI never have to go through anything like that ever again. It was not fun!

Challenge 9 -- Gonna Be A Tough One

Welcome, Amazing Digi Scrapping Racers! We at Oscraps are so excited to be your next stop along your 6-week digi-trek!

At Oscraps we’re all about keepin’ it real, so your next challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to scrap your *most embarrassing moment*—you know, that time you put your foot in your mouth big-time, or got caught doing something you never would have done if you’d known people were watching? Yeah—scrap that!

But that’s not all! For this challenge you MUST:

--Use a photo that goes with your most embarrassing moment. It doesn’t have to be a photo of the actual moment (because who stops in the middle of something super embarrassing and says, “Hey, I should get a picture of this so I can scrap it later!”?), but just a visual aid to the story. If you walked around all day with a piece of toilet paper hanging out the back of your pants, then use a photo of a roll of toilet paper.

--Journal about your embarrassing moment.

--Use at least one ribbon

--Use at least one tag

--Use at least two different fonts on your layout (not including alphas)

The idea behind this challenge is to be able to take an honest look at ourselves and admit that sometimes we’re not always as smooth as we’d like to be. And that’s totally okay. If you can laugh at yourself, you are blessed indeed!

Shawn's Girl Talk (task #8)

Four weeks down, two to go - I can't believe how fast it's gone by! This LO is about "girl talk" - girl talk I didn't have and girl talk I hope my girls will have together...

Journaling reads:
Growing up, I always wanted a sister. Every time my mom was
pregnant, I would hope for a girl Every time, a new baby brother
until I had three younger brothers and no sisters. I was so
disappointed not to have that special sister
relationship - sharing clothes, sharing
secrets, all that girl talk...my ideal
world of sisterhood.

Now, I’m all grown up and have two
litter girls of my own - sisters! Yes,
they fight (but so did my brothers and I!) but
there is definitely a special bond between
them. I am glad I’ve gotten to experience
sisterhood as a mother.

Challenge 8 for the Amazing Race was a tough one for me. Finding the pictures was a real challenge. I managed to find ones from when I was a teenager pretty easily; had to scan them in, but I found them easily. They aren't the greatest pictures in the world; but who has the greatest pictures from when they were a teenager. Not many people back then. Anyway ... finding current pictures was more difficult. I am always taking the pictures. Especially when I am with Mariah ... well, she takes pictures too, but nobody takes pictures of us together! I decided to use a picture of me holding Mariah's new baby and a picture of her when she was pregnant. We were at the bowling alley and she was taking pictures of the boys and Mackenzie bowling. She and I love to take pictures and do so as often as we can, especially when we are together. Maybe some day we will be able to get someone to take a picture of us together. For this layout I chose to mix a bunch of things together. The background paper, journaling page and star are from Amanda Thorderson's A New Baby Boy kit. The wordart is from Tracy Dane, Kikibug and TartzScrapz. They were all freebie downlaods from awhile ago. I love wordart, so I have quite a collection. Font is Velvet Script. Full page journaling reads as follows:
The meaning of friendship changes as we get older, along the same lines as we do. When I was in high school I spent a lot of my free time hanging out with Leslie Erpelding. She and I were inseparable. We played Volleyball together and did Chorus together as well. She was a year ahead of me in school, so we didn't have classes together, except for Chorus, but we got to spend lunch period together. The photos below show just how goofy we could be when we wanted to. Luckily there was someone around to take pictures of us, even if it was to embarass us with them later. Leslie was there for me no matter what. She helped me through boy troubles and parent problems and I did the same for her. She was even nice enough to help me learn how to drive. The things we talked about back then don't seem all that important now, but they were back then. I am married now and have children of my own ... all boys of course, so I won't have to deal with them and "girl talk". Every girl needs someone to talk to though, a place to vent her frustrations. I found that person again a few years ago. Being a military family we don't live in the same place for very long. That makes it hard to find real friends. Mariah is a great friend though. She and I cn spend hours on the phone talking about nothing. I dont' know what I would ahve done without her during Mitch's last deployment; or what I will do witout her during the upcoming deployment. She still lives in Mannheim, but we are stationed in Baumholder now. It is a 70 minute drive to get to her house, Luckily we still have the telephone and instant messaging. Thank God for the computer. It is a necessity that I talk to her every day. She knows just what to say when I am mad or frustrated with my children, or upset because of something that Mitch has said or done. She is a real sweetheart. Our normal conversations are more about our kids and life in the military than anything else, but its great to be able to talk with someone who knows what I am going through. Not many people understand the life of a military wife. Its great when you connect with someone who does. I'm glad I found Mariah!

Welcome to the challenge #8 in the ADSR2! We’re excited to be hosting this round and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Your Challenge: Each participant needs to create a layout using the theme “Girl Talk.” Some ideas of how to use the theme: Show us the person you are most likely to “girl talk” with… what is most often the topic of discussion in your “girl talk”? what about when you were a teen? what was the girl talk then? what is it now? how’s it changed? Just about anything goes as long as you incorporate the theme in some way.

Prize: All ADSR2 participants who complete the challenge will receive the exclusive Dani’s Girl’s 6×6 Heat Wave QP album with instructions on how to turn it into an accordion album. In addition, one random name will be drawn from those who complete the challenge and that person and their partner will be offered a spot as guests on the Dani’s Girls team in September!

Gina's Photos Redone

Well ... the rules of the challenge were changed yesterday ... so Shawn and I had to redo my layout because we couldn't use templates.

My new layout was made using an enlarged photo of my husband combined with a blue paper from Sharia Braxton's Little Boy Blue kit. The Reel is from Pamela McNicol’s Digitreats Expecting You kit ... recolored using a paper from Sharia Braxton's Little Boy Blue kit.

Shawn added to the layout and made it pretty. The paper behind the reel and star on top of the reel are from Amanda Thorderson's America the Beautiful kit, and the flourish is SwirlsII brush by Obsidian Dawn.

Journaling reads as follows: Mitch has been gone so much lately that the boys have not gotten to spend any time with him. First he was always busy with work and then they went to the field for 3 weeks. He did manage to come home a full week before he was due to leave for school. He was still busy that week at work and the boys didn't see him much then either. It was really nice to see them outside having fun outside Friday night. They tossed football, played helicopter and generally acted goofy. I think we had about 10 kids in the front yard that evening. I got a real laugh when Mitch kicked the big playground ball in the air ... he kicked it so high that it got stuck on the 3rd floor balcony. That apartment is empty so we couldn't get the ball back ... that ended that game real quick.. I got the ball back on Monday when the workers were there to clean.

Challenge 7 with Gina's photos

Like the layout that Shawn posted earlier, this was a coordinated challenge. The arrangement of the photos and the blue background was done by me. I then sent it to Shawn who did the rest. She did a great job too. I love the elements that she chose to add to the page.

Credit go to AmyW for her GradCap jump start template ... we chaned it up a bit, but it helped me to place all those photos on the page.

Credit also goes to Glenda Ketcham for her Pomp & Circumstances kit. I used her Blue background paper and the black mortar board also.

Ribbon, Journaling paper, tan background paper and tag are from Amanda Thorderson's America The Beautiful kit and its Add-On.
Shawn used Atomic Cupcake's Bottom Tear Action on the journaling paper. There were a few fonts used here ... Comic Sans MS for the school name on the tag and Kids First Print Font for the word Kindergarten. Class of 2007 words are from Amy W's template. This was a fun challenge. Can't wait to see what they give us to do next. Until then ...

My mother gave me a great deal of advice while I was growing up. But there was one that I remember most. One that I tell my children all the time. We all need to remember to treat others as we want to be treated. But, this advice is twofold really. We also need to learn to ignore others who talk about us behind our backs. They are just trying to get a rise out of us. If you ignore them they will go away. This is a very hard lesson for a child to learn. Especially hen they want to fit in., to be liked, to be in the "in crowd". This is a lesson that I am trying to teach my boys. I hope that it is one that they will learn early on; I do not want them to suffer at school or outside when they are playing. Bigger kids can be mean. Unfortunately not everyone thinks as I do. The older children in our neighborhood can be downright mean. Trying to convince them to treat the other kids how they would like to be treated goes in one ear and out the other. Alas, it should be expected. I just hope that my boys listen to me when i tell them to treat others as they want to be treated and ignore the comments that others make to them. We love them and that is all that matters.

Get your typing fingers ready, it's a journaling challenge!

Happy Sunday, racers! Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is one that's near & dear to my heart. It's all about the JOURNALING!

Here's what I want you to do. Someone in your life has taught you something that has stuck with you. It might be a mothering tip. It might be a viewpoint. It might be some words of wisdom. It might be a love of something.

Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to scrap about that. Figure out what was passed down to you, from whom, and memorialize it. There are so many choices here - what speaks to your heart the most is the one to choose.

When you journal about it, don't just touch the surface. Ask yourself some questions & write out the answers. Things like:
1. Who was the person who passed this down & who were they to you?
2. What, exactly, was it that they passed down to you?
3. How has this tidbit affected your life? How do you see things differently because of it? How do you live your life differently because of it?
4. Are you actively trying to live out this "thing" every day? Is it a once in a lifetime thing or is it something you remind yourself of regularly?
5. Why are you choosing to remember this? What lasting significance do you want it to have not only on you today, but on your kids & grandkids? Is this something you want to pass down to them, too? How do you hope it manifests itself in their lives?

Here is my submission for the 4th Challenge of the ADSR2. I had a bit of fun creating this one. The photos that I used for this page are from one of their friend's birthday parties earlier this month.

For this layout I used a template by Selana ... a Digitals Newsletter Freebie.

Kit used is Winter Warmers .. available at Pickleberry Pop .. this was the prize for ADSR2 challenge #2.

3 Wishes

This is my submission for the 3rd challenge. I chose to do the 3 Wishes part of the "Fairy Tale". The layout was a good one for me to do. I hope you enjoy this page ... I enjoyed creating it. Getting it posted to the gallery at KB&Friends was quite an andventure; more so than creating the layout was. Don't know if its something with their site or what, but the gallery didn't like me at all. With that said, I got it posted in my gallery at Digitals, the race gallery at NDISB and the challenge gallery at KB&Friends.

Here is what the journaling reads:
Growing up we read fairy tales before bed and watch cartoon movies about genies with magic lamps. We often imagine what we would wish for. I made those same pretend wishes. Now, many, many years later, I sit and look back over those childish wishes. I am not a child any longer. I have kids of my own now. If given the chance, I would gladly make 3 wishes again. The fact that my children are happy means wish #1 was already been granted. I have a happy family. My 2nd wish would be for my husband to remain safe during his time in the
military. Wish 3 would be for a bright future for our kids.

Hear ye, hear ye! By royal decree, fair ladies (and noble knights) across the land who have preregistered for the Amazing Digiscrapping Race Season 2 are cordially invited to the KB and Friends storybook challenge on Sunday, July 22.

All ye gathered are challenged to create a fairytale or storybook layout with one of these themes: Once Upon a Time; Three Wishes; If I were Queen (or Princess or Prince or King) of the World. Participants who complete the challenge receive the lovely Tea Party kit by the designers at KB and Friends.

Disclaimer: You must already be registered as a team member with the Amazing Digiscrapping Race Season 2 to be eligible for the kit. The kit will be available in the store after the challenge ends for those of you who are not participating in the race.

We invite you to post your entries in our Amazing Digiscrapping Race gallery. Ordinarily, we require at least one item from KB and Friends to be in a layout for posting in our gallery, but we have suspended that rule for race participants. So do show off your layouts!

Well .. the 2nd challenge has been posted. This time its a team effort, so there will be 1 layout completed. Shawn and I will both be working on this layout.

Here is the challenge information ...

The challenge is in the graphic below. For those that can't see the image, it says the team must collaborate on ONE layout and must use the specified items in their layout which are: Doodle; Friendship; 2 photos; Red; Flower

NOTE: Your layout MUST include these items at a minimum, but can include other things also if you wish!

Registered racers who participate in this challenge will receive the Pickleberrypop ~ Winter Warmers collaboration kit, created by 7 of our fabulously talented picklehead designers. It's winter here in Australia, and we want to help you experience what winter means for us here in the Land Downunder: Frosted lawns, the Snowy Mountains, foggy mornings, cold nights, warm family rooms and winter alfresco! Gina's Layout #1

Like Shawn, I too managed to complete the layout for the first challenge. It was a bit more difficult for me though. Since we live in Germany and not the US right now we haven't visited too many museums. I went to the Louvre 12 years ago, but I don't have those pictures handy, so that wouldn't work. I chose, instead, to do a layout about Neuschwanstein. I did a search for museums in Germany and determined that it was classified as a museum. Since we have been there 3 times now it was fitting. This photo was taken last month when we went. Here is what the journaling states: Here is what the journaling reads:

Neuschwanstein Castle is a bizarre castle conceived by the "Mad King" Ludwig II of Bavaria, Germany.
It was built in the 19th century but was designed as a fanciful recreation of medieval castles dating back to the 12th century (when bows and arrows rather than wall-smashing canon shells ruled). Decorative work on many unfinished rooms in Neuschwanstein Castle was abruptly and permanently halted in 1886 when Ludwig drowned in a nearby lake. Neuschwanstein Castle soon thereafter became a museum and popular tourist destination. The view from the castle of the surrounding area is quite magnificent. It is definitely an amazing and breathtaking location.

For this layout I used background paper and a pin from Amanda Thorderson's America The Beautiful kit.

My first race LO!

Here it is, my very first LO for the ADSR2. Not too tough of a challenge, this time! We had to scrap about a trip to a museum - one we've done or would like to do - and use the word 'amazing' somewhere on it. I managed to complete task #1 :)

Well ... I submitted the email for Shawn and I to join the race on Saturday. Still haven't heard anything back. Patiently waiting as I am sure that they are quite busy. Will let you know more when I find out. I can't wait though, this sounds like such fun. I can only imagine what they are going to have us do for 6 weeks.
